Terramac adds new rotating RT7R crawler carrier development based on customer feedback
Customers are often the best agents for change, offering suggestions that lead to innovation and new products. Terramac Director of Business Development Jesse Whittaker said customer input played a key role in developing Terramac’s new RT7R rubber track crawler carrier, which features an upper frame that rotates 360 degrees.
“They were looking for a machine that offers outstanding production on tight jobsites and is easily transportable,” said Whittaker. “The RT7R is about half the size of our popular RT14R, which also rotates 360 degrees. Full rotation allows the operator to dump at any position without the need to counter rotate. It’s more efficient than using a straight-frame crawler carrier or a traditional truck.”
Ready to work in tough conditions
The RT7R has a footprint of 17 feet, 3 inches by 8 feet, 1 inch, and at 23,730 pounds, can be hauled on a tag trailer. It is ideal for tight spaces and sensitive areas such as railroad track right-of-way access, rivers and levees, general earthmoving, site prep and utility jobs.
The crawler carrier’s fully loaded ground pressure is 5.5 psi. Flotation from the rubber tracks allows it to travel lightly in adverse ground conditions, climb faster on rugged terrain and reach remote areas while minimizing environmental damage and land restoration costs.
Whitaker said that the RT7R gives customers the choice of rock or flat beds and an optional tailgate. It comes standard with a heavy-duty rock bed to maximize hauling efficiency when moving dirt, brush or rugged materials, such as riprap.
“You can haul mats with the flat bed and materials with the rock beds or mount equipment on the flat bed, such as welding units or hydroseeders,” Whittaker said. “Changing from one to the other is very easy. Customers are finding new uses for our crawler carriers every day, and the RT7R gives them another great option to ensure productivity on a variety of jobsites.”
